Workshop Description:
Embarking on a Higher Degree Research (HDR) journey is exciting, but it can also bring a challenge: culture shock.
This workshop will help you understand the dynamics of culture shock, build self-awareness and resilience, and develop new strategies to help you succeed. We will also reflect on the importance of cultural safety and our responsibilities to be inclusive within the academic community.
This seminar is recommended for any candidates experiencing culture shock, or seeking to develop their understanding of cultural safety and the practical steps to create an inclusive environment.
Key Topics:
- Navigating Culture Shock: Identify key stages of cultural adaptation, reflect on personal experiences, and develop strategies to manage challenges effectively.
Understanding Cultural Safety: Explore the key behaviours and responsibilities that contribute to an inclusive culture and how these can enhance collaboration and innovation during your PhD. - First Nations Perspective: Gain insights into the importance of respect, relationship, and connection to Country and Community.
- Resources and training sessions available on cultural safety: We will guide you to a range of valuable resources to help mitigate racism and promote inclusivity.
Learn about practical tools and frameworks to support you to contribute to a welcoming and respectful research community.
