Workshop description:
Your research can generate valuable intellectual property (IP) — but do you know what counts as IP, who owns it, and what you can do with it?
Join UOW’s Director of Innovation and Commercial Research for a practical introduction to IP in the HDR context. You’ll explore how IP can arise through research, how student IP ownership works at UOW, and what you need to know about IP deeds.
You’ll learn about:
- What is Intellectual property? Including different types and ownership vs rights
- IP you create at UOW, third party rights and IP deeds
- How IP management supports your research impact
- Opportunities for entrepreneurship
- Publishing, protecting and commercialising research outputs
- Where to go for advice about IP
You don’t need to be working on an invention or planning to commercialise your research to benefit from this session. It is relevant to HDRs across disciplines who create, use or contribute to research outputs.
Supervisors are strongly encouraged to attend to better understand student created IP, IP deeds, and support available to tenable impact from HDR research outputs.
