Information Session / Workshop Description:
The Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition challenges you to communicate the essence of your research in just three minutes—clearly, confidently, and for a non-specialist audience.
This practical session combines a brief overview of the 3MT competition with training in research communication and public speaking. You’ll hear insights from one of last year’s 3MT Final judges, Dr Mary Papakosmas, and receive practical guidance on shaping a clear, engaging research narrative.
In this workshop, you will:
-
Gain an overview of the 3MT competition, including eligibility, expectations, and the benefits of participating
-
Learn how to distil your research into a clear, engaging narrative for a non-specialist audience
-
Explore the key elements of an effective 3MT presentation, with practical tips for clarity, impact, and confident delivery
While this session focuses on the 3MT competition, any HDR candidates interested in developing their communication and presentation skills will benefit from attending.
We strongly recommend attending in person to make the most of the workshopping component.
