Mindfulness or current moment awareness refers to the “awareness that emerges from paying attention on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgmentally to the unfolding of experience moment by moment” (Kabat-Zinn, 2003, p. 145).

Mindfulness is a well validated skill that facilitates a non-judgmental, curious stance, fostering compassion and empathy (Keng, Smoski, & Robins, 2011). More recently, mindfulness has been recognised as effective in reducing stress in students, increasing attention and focus, and tolerance of uncertainty, indicating relevance to HDR students.
