The literature review is the first step towards joining a disciplinary conversation. This seminar will give an overview of the purpose of a literature review and how to write one. It will develop your understanding of critical thinking as key to evaluating and synthesising the literature.
We will discuss literature review structures, and the language of argument. You will examine many examples in this session, and engage in critical discussion of what makes a review more or less effective.
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this seminar, you will better understand:
- The purpose of a literature review
- The importance of critical thinking, reading, and writing
- How to structure your literature review
- How to use language effectively for your purpose
