Waste RADAR - Apex Engineering
Description
Introducing WasteRadar by Apex Engineering! Waste management just got smarter. Overflowing bins and wasted trips are a thing of the past. In collaboration with Ontoto, we’ve created a radar and Wi-Fi enabled device that detects when bins are full and alerts waste operatives. It’s easy to install, weatherproof, and built to last over 10 years. WasteRadar reduces unnecessary trips, saving fuel and cutting CO2 emissions—leading to a cleaner, more sustainable future. See WasteRadar in action at the UOW Innovation Exhibition or contact us to learn more!

Steering wheel display and driver control system - XPEDE
Description
The FSAE competition is an annual race-engineering event where university teams build open-wheel formula-style race cars and participate in design, engineering, and on-track events. The UOW Motorsport Team has been participating in this competition since 2001. This year team is looking to integrate a specialised steering wheel display system into their 2022/2024 model EV race car that would enable drivers to adjust vehicle settings on the fly, and display useful data such as speed, cell temperature, and error information. While not a novel concept, this project a customised, affordable solution that that will result in a competitive advantage. Upon consultation with the UOW Motorsport team, our group, XPEDE, decided to undertake this project with support from UOWM as our primary shareholder/sponsor.

GlowTow: Wireless trailer safety system
Description
GlowTow is the world's first wireless trailer indicator safety system. For years, outdoor enthusiasts have struggled to find a safe way to use their trailer indicator system without the need for cumbersome and faulty trailer plugs. Let’s say you’re on the highway, heading down the coast, and your trailer plug becomes disconnected. This could cause a devastating accident. Not anymore, with GlowTow's state-of-the-art continuity system. The GlowTow device can detect when the trailer plug has become unplugged or broken and switches to wireless mode, keeping you safe. The driver will also receive a signal to pull over as soon as it’s safely possible to fix the problem immediately. Here at GlowTow, our engineers have developed a wireless continuity system that can immediately detect when the cable has become unplugged, keeping you safe for longer.

IoT LoRaWAN
Description
One in three people worldwide lack access to safe drinking water, and pollution is making things worse. In Australia, tap water has been found to contain dangerous, cancer-causing chemicals across every state, posing a major health risk. With global settlements like the $10 billion agreement by 3M in the US, it's clear that water contamination is a huge issue.
But what's the solution? In this video, we explore how better water monitoring can help us take informed actions to tackle contamination. Introducing the Atlantis module—a cutting-edge, low-powered device that makes water monitoring easier, more affordable, and accurate. From agriculture to river health, this versatile technology could be the key to understanding water quality and protecting the environment.
Stay tuned as we showcase a demo of the Atlantis module, breaking down its features, tech specs, and its potential to revolutionize water safety monitoring in Australia and beyond.
