Running in Weeks 11 & 12, join our interactive workshops designed to help you ace your next job application and interview!

Students who attend both workshops will receive a Certificate of Recognition and Attendance. Register below and set yourself up for success! These workshops are perfect for students studying in the Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences who are in their final year of study (undergraduate & postgraduate).

Workshop 1 - Crafting Competitive Job Applications

Learn how to create job applications and get noticed!

This practical workshop will give you the tools, strategies and insider knowledge to confidently showcase your skills and strengths - even if you don’t yet have extensive experience.

You will also hear from a student who attended last year’s workshop and successfully secured a job afterwards.

We may invite a recruitment professional to share industry insights and practical advice.

What you will gain:

Through hands-on activities and real examples, you'll learn how to:

  • Understand the recruitment and selection process and what's expected at each stage
  • Navigate AI and Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) used to screen applications
  • Read and respond to job advertisements effectively
  • Use the CAR method to address selection criteria with confidence
  • How to use the STAR method to address selection criteria
  • Create a compelling resume and cover letter to highlight your skills and strengths.

You will also explore UOW's job application tools and resources to help you create stronger, more targeted applications and feel confident in your job search.

Workshop 2 - Mastering Behavioural Interviews with the STAR Method

This hands-on workshop will help you better understand behavioural interviews and guide you through how to structure clear, effective responses using the STAR method.

Join our 2-hour STAR Interview Skills Workshop designed to boost your confidence and skills in behavioural-based job interviews!

What you will gain:

In this interactive session, you will: 

  • Learn what employers are really looking for in behavioural interviews
  • Master the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result)
  • Practice answering real interview questions in a supportive setting
  • Receive valuable peer feedback to help sharpen and strengthen your responses.

You will also explore UOW's tools and resources to help you practise interview skills, gain instant feedback, and build confidence for employee conversations.

Dr Carmel Kostos

Dr Carmel Kostos is a Career Development Learning Specialist in the Educational Innovation and Enablement team at UOW, and she supports students and academics in the Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences.

She is a Registered Professional Career Development Practitioner with 20 years’ experience across career education, teaching university students, and training Careers Educators.

Carmel also brings extensive industry insight, having worked in recruitment for over seven years, a subject she taught to Master of Business students for four years.

Dr John Le
Deputy Head of School (Growth & Global)
Senior Lecturer, Cybersecurity
Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences
University of Wollongong

Dr John Le received his PhD in Cybersecurity from the University of Technology Sydney in 2020.

He is currently Deputy Head of School of Computing and Information Technology (Growth and Global) and Senior Lecturer in Cybersecurity.

Dr Le’s research focuses on cybersecurity, cloud security, applied cryptography, quantum computing and machine learning. He has published extensively in leading journals and conference proceedings in the field.
