Workshop 1 - Crafting Competitive Job Applications

Learn how to create job applications and get noticed!

This workshop will give you the tools and confidence to showcase your qualifications, skills, and potential in a way that stands out to employers.

This interactive, hands-on workshop will walk you through the key elements of a successful job application. You’ll work with real examples, use proven tools, and get feedback from your peers to help you build stronger applications and feel more confident in your job search.

Topics Covered:

  • How the recruitment and selection process works and what you need to do at each stage
  • How employers use AI and applicant tracking systems (ATS) to screen resumes
  • How to read and respond to job ads effectively
  • How to use the STAR method to address selection criteria
  • How to write a compelling cover letter and resume that highlight your strengths

 

Workshop 2 - Mastering Behavioural Interviews with the STAR Method

Dr Carmel Kostos is a Faculty Careers Specialist in the Careers and Employability team at UOW, supporting students and academics in the Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences. She has expertise in leadership and career development, coaching emerging leaders, and facilitating organisational change.

As a registered Professional Career Development Practitioner with the Career Industry Council of Australia, Carmel is passionate about empowering students to navigate the transition from university to fulfilling professional careers.

Dr John Le
Lecturer, Cybersecurity
Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences,
University of Wollongong

Dr John Le received his PhD in Cybersecurity from the University of Technology Sydney in 2020. He is currently a lecturer in Cybersecurity at the School of Computing and Information Technology and a member of the Institute of Cybersecurity and Cryptology (iC2) at the University of Wollongong.

Dr Le’s research focuses on cybersecurity, cloud security, applied cryptography, and machine learning. He has published extensively in leading journals and conference proceedings in the field.
