Weed Conversations
*Formerly Aussieweeds

Project Summary

In 2019, New South Wales witnessed one of the worst bushfires in the past decade affecting over 5.5 million hectares (7%) of land. Out of which, 37% of the national park estate (i.e., all categories of parks), 42% of state forests, and 4% of freehold land were within the fire ground. Naturally, the bushfires altered large areas of habitat for species and ecosystems in the State, including private and public lands. One of the many negative impacts of the bushfires was the growth of invasive species such as harmful weeds in these regions. Rural landholders are struggling to manage weed invasions in the aftermath of the Black Summer fires. The subsequent wet winters have accelerated weed incursions, meaning many landholders are discovering new weeds thriving on their properties. Yet limited financial or technical support is available to support landholders to manage weeds. Our website, Weedconversations.org aims to establish a virtual weed management hub, where landholders can readily access information about new weeds, identify which weeds to prioritize for management, and learn about management techniques that other landholders in their region have successfully used in fire-affected and other landscapes. In doing so, this hub will bring communities together to overcome current weed challenges.

Romeo Online Simulator

Project Summary

The ROMEO project is focused on creating an online web server and holding a tournament, so that general public can inspect the games and share their thoughts without any installation.

Our secondary goal is to research around the strategy for a team of agents that can join the RoboCup Soccer Simulation. For simulation, the agents will continuously receive data from all possible world states (field states) then process it and make a decision (behaviour). Thus, our goal is the development of behaviour enhancement for agents, as well as continuous improvement of team strategy so that our team will be stronger.

ITSA Printing App

Project Summary

The Illawarra TAFE Student Association (ITSA) wanted to have a way for students to upload their documents, have them costed and get it all printed without coming to campus if they didn't have to. This project started by adding a printing service to the ITSA's existing website. After some discussion with ITSA, it was decided to expand the project's scope to include remaking the ITSA website and helping move hosting to AWS as the printing service needed to use a different hosting site and would end up saving costs for ITSA.

YIAP Digital Wallet

Project Summary

Currently, field technicians have no means of holding their credentials as a digital representation. In an era where smart devices are used frequently in everyone’s day to day life, the need for virtual credentials is ever increasing in order to improve ease of accessibility. With this comes an important need for privacy and protection of important information. This project aims to enable this idea by leveraging blockchain-enabled digital wallets to maintain all private content. Our client Catalyze Software has an enterprise software product called YIAP - Your Identity Asset Protection. The first customer on YIAP is a company that uses a team of electricians to install smart meters in residential, commercial and industrial sites across Australia. YIAP is designed to be inherently privacy compliant by leveraging blockchain-enabled digital wallets to maintain all private content. Whilst YIAP stands ready to fulfil this vision the speed of development and immediate needs of the customer have delayed the development and implementation of these features. The brief for the project team is to develop a working proof-of-concept using the Evernym SDK. Evernym have a digital wallet product called Connect Me and a server-based virtual credentials platform called Verity that are believed to be a good fit for the YIAP requirement. The Evernym SDK will be utilised to create a digital wallet that can withhold a credential for a field technician. This credential data will be pushed from the current YIAP platform and stored as a unique identifier in a database through a new interface that will also be developed during the project. The primary use case for the proof-of-concept is the issuing of virtual credentials to all field technicians and the ability to control the provision of private content to YIAP from the digital wallet.

Restoration Projects Platform (RPP)

Project Summary

The Restoration Projects Platform is an online carbon calculator used by the reforestation organisation, Lord of the Trees. The site allows for its users to calculate their carbon emissions based on a variety of categories, such as electricity or food, and can be adapted to be more advanced with ease if the user chooses to do so. When finished with the calculations, results are presented in a report to users, which includes a breakdown of the data and some offset tips. If a user is connected to an account, this report then can be saved and compared to other reports over a period of time to see the user's carbon emitting progress. Account holders can also join a project to compare their reports with other users in that project and receive a report that integrates the data from all users. The calculator works for both individuals and companies providing a variety of offset solutions, that are a range of reforestation and sustainability efforts being completed by Lord of the Trees. Every offset payment is completely transparent allowing any user, whether it be a company or a single individual, to see how their payment is being used and the progress of not only the reforestation effort they are supporting but every effort completed by Lord of the Trees.

Just Trip

Project Summary

Our project is to design a forum for the tourism APP "JustTrip", which allows users to exchange tourism information and inquire about tourism information. Its main users are tourists. Therefore, the main idea of the system design and interface design is to establish a database for the backstage forum and project it to the server through the personal host. Then build an APP development platform, connect with the database through JDBC. Based on this information structure, through writing codes to insert information into the database and find information from the database, the final to achieve a tourism information forum. After logging in to the forum, users can post and comment, add their favorite posts to favorites. In addition, you can also find information about tourist attractions.

SeQRe: Secure QR Authentication

Project Summary

The primary focus of this project was to develop a system that allows a user’s primary mobile device (iPhone or Android) to act as a Two Factor Authentication (2FA) key for all forms of online login. Using the SeQRe platform, a user can login onto a security-essential site, their baking site for example, and rather receiving a traditional One-Time Password (OTP) to their mobile device after entering their password, a QR code is displayed. Upon scanning the code, authentication is completed by the system in the background and no further input is needed. The replacement of the OTP method has the potential to contribute to significant advancements in the usability and security of 2FA systems.
