Meet the 3rd year project teams
Description
Flooding is one of Australia’s most destructive natural disasters, costing millions and taking lives each year. To address this, the FloodMate—an innovative, solar-powered flood monitoring system developed with industry partner Silicon Vandals—provides real-time alerts and data to communities and emergency responders. Designed for easy installation onto existing flood indicators, the FloodMate is sustainable and user-friendly, requiring no technical expertise. It operates autonomously with a durable steel enclosure, solar power, and a 15,000 mAh lithium-ion battery for continuous use. Equipped with cellular connectivity, GPS tracking, and a capacitive water-level sensor, it delivers accurate, real-time flood data to a central dashboard for early intervention and community safety.

Description
Renewable energy, in particular energy from clean sources that impact our climate as little as possible, is one of the biggest areas of research in modern times. While our understanding and harnessing of solar energy is, at this point, quite detailed, the next big hurdle for science and technology is the ability to store energy for use on demand. The sponsor AustSTEM and our team acknowledge that today’s classrooms hold the very people who will conquer this problem – they hold the ideas that will allow all the world to have access to clean, safe, and renewable energy.
As such, this project aims to encourage these students through engaging in practical investigation into the current state of solar energy production and some methods available for storage.

The Southern Transfer Cart is a rail-guided vehicle designed to move heavy steel loads through industrial mills. To highlight the importance of safety in these environments, we built a scaled-down working model that shows both the risks and the engineering solutions behind safe operation.
Using motor-driven control and light barrier sensors, the system follows a simple logic — move, detect, stop. Preventing collisions and ensuring safe, efficient transport.

Meet the Weather Wizard.
The Weather Wizard is a solar-powered environmental monitoring system that makes STEM learning fun and interactive. Three weather stations collect data on temperature, humidity, and more, sending it to a central hub and website for students to explore. Learners can even code the system themselves, turning real-world weather into hands-on discovery.

The Wize Dynamics sponsored project 'Payload Pal' is a revolutionary new smart cart which follows a user through the use of a single Ultrawide Band Tag! The trailer follows you based on distance, whilst detecting obstacles in its path and avoiding them. The cart, which is to be used in grocery stores, is designed with the sole intention of holding your groceries for you, without the need to push or carry a cart or basket of shopping. This smart cart does wonders for those with mobility issues, such as those with physical disabilities or elderly individuals!

Sponsored by Triple i, QUACK (Quality Assessment Camera Kit) is user friendly and fully integrated system for businesses to integrate AI for quality evaluation into their production lines. This is done through the step by step building of a computer vision model to identify different classes of defects of their product, all contained within the enclosure of the product. This process involves the collection and labelling of datasets, preprocessing of that data to be ready to train a model, as well as the training and execution of the model itself. Once trained, this model is executed in real-time and provides its inference output to the GUI that controls the whole device. This product can not only be an introduction into AI for many businesses, but a holistic system and solution for their quality evaluation needs.

Description
The CRTU by JARLSS Engineering improves upon traditional RTUs by implementing conditional thresholding. It caches all input data locally on the device and automatically sends it via LoRaWAN periodically using a clock, just like traditional RTUs. However, it also has embedded C code that allows it to transmit data immediately if there are any unusual spikes in input data results. This allows the CRTU to save energy by sending data less often and increases the safety of your workplace by immediately notifying you of any possible dangers.
