Welcome to the Spring 2023 HDR Training Program Website

The Spring 2023 HDR Training Program has been developed by the Graduate Research School's Training and Development Team in collaboration with Dean Professor Simon Moss, Deputy Dean Professor Honglin Chen, HDR candidates, academic and professional staff, and key UOW support services.
 

The Spring 2023 HDR Training Program has four key streams: The Accomplished Writer, The Strong Communicator, The Methods Master, and The Successful Researcher

The Accomplished Writer is a program designed to assist HDR candidates write a manuscript in one semester. If this is something you would like to achieve, we strongly recommend participating actively in the program and attending all eight workshops.

 

The Strong Communicator program was created to assist HDR Candidates develop strong research communication skills. These workshops aim to enhance candidates’ presentation skills, whilst also providing insights on how to effectively market yourself in academic and non-academic spaces.

The Methods Master program assists HDR candidates in navigating the technical aspects of research methods. The seven sessions in this program serve to provide the fundamentals in qualitative and quantitative research methods and statistics.

The Successful Researcher is a program designed to assist HDR candidates in developing the foundations of research excellence. This program consists of five, hands-on sessions focused on building resilience, and organisational skills and strategies to promote high-quality research.

Each session description includes a blue Register Here button. If you click on this button, you will be redirected to the general Registration page. You will also have the option to modify your registration here. Once you have registered for one or more sessions, the sessions will appear in My Registrations at the top of the page, and you will also receive an email confirming your registration.

When you register for sessions for the first time, you will be asked to provide certain information to give you a personalised and interactive experience.

All information relating to the sessions will be initially collected and stored by Swoogo (an event management platform) on behalf of UOW. Swoogo will store data on servers located in UK/Ireland and in accordance with their Privacy Policy. UOW will access and manage all data captured during these sessions in accordance with our privacy policy. De-identified data may be used by UOW for quality assurance and future program planning purposes.

You can modify your registration at any time via your login details provided at registration.

You can do this by clicking on the My Registrations tab in the main menu and selecting Modify Registration at the bottom of the page.  You can update your personal details, as well as change your selected sessions. 

All sessions will be available in-person and online. Recordings of individual sessions will be uploaded to the HDR Training Program Moodle page by the end of each week.

No, you are welcome to attend all sessions you wish.

We are planning to record all Spring 2023 sessions, unless otherwise specified in the session description. If you are unable to attend a session, recordings will be uploaded to the 2023 HDR Training Program Resource Moodle site by Monday of the week following the session. 

While we have aimed to develop an extensive training program that meets diverse HDR training needs, there are various topics that we were unable to fit into the Spring schedule. There are also a small number of sessions still to be announced.

Some of these topics were included in the Autumn schedule, and you can find recordings and slides from previous Spring sessions in the 2023 HDR Training Program Resource Moodle site.

HDR candidates can also self-enrol into Epigeum Research Skills Toolset modules covering a variety of topics on Moodle here.
